Made from Southland Argillite. The rock is hard in natural form and holds its shape well when carved. This piece was inspired by a Kaka (native parrot) beak. The chord is made from muka, which was extracted from flax in Waitati, made with feathers from around Blueksin Bay, NZ.
This kaka beak piece is 13cm in length
and 4cm on the widest point.
The Muka and feather rope is a total of 14 cm in length.
The piece will come packaged in a kete (handwoven bag) for safekeeping.
