Marama

Takaka Marble - One of a series of works that I've made over the years. Physically resembling a crescent moon, metaphorically wide open whakaaro tied into the many meanings of marama or maarama.

I’ve started using the maramataka moon calender, finding it a helpful tool to navigate each day.

The crescent moon typically a time for outdoor activity, when critters are more active after the unsettling full moon, a good time to have traps freshly baited to catch rodents. A good time to have hands in the earth and feet in the sea.
